De stichting in Nederland

Sinds 1986 is er het contact met de Santa Cruz Mission Schools in de Filipijnen.

Paul de Roy, wonend in de Nikola Kommuniteit in Utrecht, bracht tijdens zijn Sabbat jaar een bezoek aan deze organisatie en was zo enthousiast dat hij in de Werkhof Gemeenschap te Werkhoven velen wist over te halen de op papier meegebrachte sponsorkinderen te adopteren.

Op 11 maart 2016 hebben we in het bestuur afscheid genomen  van Paul als 30 jaar actief lid. Wij hebben hem benoemd tot erelid van de Santa Cruz Mission Schools Nederland. 

Velen sponsoren nog trouw vanaf het begin. Gelukkig hebben zich ook nieuwe sponsors aangemeld.

In 2004 zijn wij een Stichting geworden.

            Greetings from the tribal people of Lake Sebu. First of all I would like to introduce to you my self. I am Maria L. Gandam the President of Santa Cruz Mission School, Inc. Lake Sebu, South Cotabato Philippines. Herewith is an information background of our Institution.

 

            WHAT IS SANTA CRUZ MISSION SCHOOL (SCMSI)?

 

            The Santa Cruz Mission School, Inc. (SCMSI) is a non-stock, non profit Catholic institution organized in Lake Sebu, Province of South Cotabato, Mindanao, Philippines for 54 years now. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as Non- Governmental Organization to assist the Indigenous People ( T�boli, Manobo, B�laans, Kalagans and Maguindanao Muslims) to realize their full human potential as individuals and as peoples.

 

            As a school, it aims to provide quality and relevant formal; and non-formal education that will develop productive and self-reliant community members thru a comprehensive triad functions INSTRUCTION, RESEARCH, AND EXTENSION.

 

            PROGRAM OF ASSISTANCE

 

            SCMSI fulfills its mission and reaches out to the target tribal community beneficiaries by extending community assistance in the form of the following programs:

 

A.     EDUCATION

 

The SCMSI considers education to be the basic tool in alleviating tribal peoples from poverty, oppression and exploitation. This program provides quality education to the tribal youths, honing their potentials to become leaders of their respective communities.

 

 SCMSI at present serves an approximate 60,000 community people whose children benefits the education program extended by the school.

 

PRIMARY SCHOOL- The SCMSI operates 3 DECS recognized Elementary School in the provinces of South Cotabato and Sarangani. It has a present population of  456  school enrolled formally. The elementary curriculum offers the basic in writing, reading and arithmetic as well as courses in religion, health and science, basic agriculture and livelihood education, history, and tribal culture and arts.

 

 SECONDARY SCHOOL- there are two high schools with 1266 students maintained SCMSI, all located in the Municipality of Lake Sebu. Secondary Curriculum includes follow-up courses in the primary school.

 

           

 COLLEGE EDUCATION- in 1985, the SCMSI opened a college in the main centered in Lem-heke, Lake Sebu to provide the College students (650) with comprehensive trainings to become multi-skilled professionals, versatile, self-reliant as well as balanced person who will soon serve their own communities, with honed capabilities to cope with the challenges of survival. The single College course offered is Bachelor of Science in Community Development (BSCD). (Thus, we are also offering and tapping scholarship program to the tribal students to study at the universities and colleges) for those students taking other courses and degree.
